About the MONC Auditions
The Metropolitan Opera National Council administers an audition program designed to discover promising young opera singers and assist in the development of their careers.
There are three levels of competition:
- District
- Regional
- National
Georgia District MONC Sponsor
The Opera Guild for Atlanta sponsors the first level of competition, partnering with The Metropolitan Opera National Council to produce the Georgia District auditions.
Winners from the District level advance to the Regional competition. The regional first-place winner proceeds to New York’s Metropolitan Opera for the semi-final round. Winners of the semi-finals are prepped and groomed for the final round of the Met auditions.
Many of the world’s foremost singers, among them Renee Fleming, Thomas Hampson Jesse Norman, Deborah Voigt, Samuel Ramey, Justino Diaz, and Nathan Gunn have received awards from the National Council.
Approximately one hundred auditioners appear annually in Metropolitan Opera
productions.
