Second Annual Scholarship Competition Winners and Event Information

The Opera Guild for Atlanta is pleased to announce its successful second annual Scholarship Competition.

The event took place Sunday, April 22, 2018, from 3-6 p.m. at Morningside Presbyterian Church.

The judges were Helen Bickers, soprano; Sam Hagan, tenor; and members of The Opera Guild for Atlanta. Ben Leaptrott served as Staff Accompanist for the event and Jeanné Brown was the event’s Emcee.

Each contestant began with a song or aria of his or her choice. The judges then asked for a second selection from each contestant.

Pictured above are the 2018 Opera Guild for Atlanta Scholarship Competition contestants. Second from the right is Ben Leaptrott, staff accompanist. Far right is Dr. Cecil Benoit, representing the Tommy Trotter Memorial Scholarship fund which generously awarded the Tommy Trotter Memorial Scholarship Graduate Award.

The judges declared two winners and offered one encouragement award.

Approximately sixty Opera Guild for Atlanta members were in attendance for this event, voted for their favorite singers, and enjoyed an afternoon of music and fellowship at the beautiful reception catered by Margaret Seitter.  Below are photographs of the reception.
