Trotter Opera Competition
The Opera Guild for Atlanta announces its Third Annual Tommy Trotter Competition for Opera Singers
- Two $1,000 awards for singers pursuing a career in opera performance. This program is for emerging artists and singers transitioning from a graduate program to a full time career in opera who are applying to training programs or are seeking advance private training. Examples of acceptable programs or pursuits include:
- Workshop programs such as Saluzzo Opera Academy
- American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria
- Apprentice artist programs such of Glimmerglass
- The International Performing Arts Institute
- Private coaching in role in development
- Private coaching in supporting skills such as language, acting, movement
- Application Deadline: Received by March 8, 2024
- No application fee
- No live audition; judges award based on applicant’s materials listed below
- Awards announced in mid-April
Eligibility:
- No Age Limit
- Applicants must be a current or formal Georgia resident or recommended by a Georgia Voice Instructor
Application Materials:
- Completed Application Form available here
- Copy of program acceptance letter or contract, or letter from voice teacher or coach that verifies your work with that teacher or coach
- Recommendation from vocal faculty attesting to skill and character
- Resume in PDF format
- Headshot in PDF or image format
- Three (3) opera arias, submitted via a YouTube playlist link
- Recordings must be presented in high-quality, shot in landscape mode
- Please make sure you are well-lit with a clear focus
- For those using a prerecorded accompaniment track instead of live piano accompaniment, please ascertain your sound level is comparable to your singing
- Winners will also need to commit to sending photos or videos depicting their experience to be loaded on the Guild’s website.
